The Mountain Skills course is an ideal choice for walkers interested in applying their countryside walking skills to the mountain environment. Ideally, participants would have done some basic hill walking previously and have a reasonable level of fitness.

Planning a Journey/Route - how to successfully plan a walk in the mountains of the UK or Ireland
Walking Skills - what things you should consider while out walking and what can make life easier (pace, nutrition, movement skills)
Navigation Skills and Poor Visibility Strategies - including relocation techniques
Introduction to GPS
Weather - how it affects the mountains and your day out
Clothing and Equipment - how being suitably dressed and equipped can make the difference between a good day out and a bad day out
Environment - how to minimise your impact on the hill and good practice
Hazards and Emergency Procedures - how to deal with any hazards you encounter and what to do in an emergency
EquipmentSpecialist equipment such as group shelter and large first aid kit wil be supplied by your guide. Please download Kit List for the required personal equipment.
FitnessWe will be out on the hill all day (for around 6-8 hours) so a reasonable level of fitness is required. If you would like any advice as to how fit you need to be please get in contact for some advice.
RatioThis course is run on a maximum ratio of 1 guide to every 8 clients.
CostThe Mountain Skills course costs £100 per person.
